Garbage Disposals

Garbage disposals are often forgot about, unless they stop working!  If there are loud or weird noises coming from the sink or a disposal has stopped working, you should not reach into the sink for safety reasons.  Rather, pickup the phone and call us at 866-254-9020!

Garbage Disposal Repair

Did you know that the average garbage disposal has only a small electric motor?  Attached to the motor are “impellers” which are spun at a high speed.  It is these impellers combined with water that turn solids into liquids (similar to a blender).

While most people think that a garbage disposal can take anything you put into them, even the disposal units built like a tank need to be serviced!  These items should never be put down into the disposal (unless you want to call a plumber!):

  • Grease, fats and oils (can easily clog the line)
  • Fruit seeds and pits
  • Foods like banana peels
  • Meat, skin, bones and lard

If you’re having garbage disposal problems, it’s okay!  Most disposal problems are not that big of a deal.  If you are in the Modesto, Tracy or Stockton area and have a problem with your disposal, call one of our team members today and we will get you taken care of!

Fixing Minor Garbage Disposal Issues

The good news is that not all garbage disposal jams require calling a pro!  If your disposal stops working, try these ideas before giving us a call:

Most garbage disposals have a reset button on the bottom of the unit; try pushing that button for a few seconds AFTER turning the disposal to the off position.

If, after trying this, it still doesn’t work, there should be a small, hexagonal hole.   By turning an Allen key in this hole you should be able to rotate the flywheel and attempt to free the clog.  Be cautious when doing this though to not hurt yourself!

Worst case scenario, if you still are out of service just give us a call and we will send one of our trained service technicians to fix your problem!
